United Community Ministries is a non-profit organization composed of local religious, governmental and private supporters who are committed to addressing the needs of the homeless and nearly homeless populations in Nash and Edgecombe Counties in Eastern North Carolina.
Located in Rocky Mount, NC, United Community Ministries provides the only emergency shelter and transitional housing for the general homeless population in the Rocky Mount area. Last year alone saw more than 340 individuals receive aid due to homelessness.
Founded in 1977, United Community Ministries has been providing not only emergency shleter, but also operates a soup kitchen that feeds an average of over 30,000 meals annually.
In 2001, United Community Ministries opened the Bassett Center as a result of the ever present need of housing for families with children that are at risk for homelessness.With more than 600 children within the Nash-Rocky Mount School system identified as homeless, an average of 45 families on the Bassett Center waiting list, United Community Ministries is continually striving to do its part to aid these families.

PHP is the Permenant Housing Program. It helps transition residents of the shelters to independent living.
For about a $2000 your organization can adopt one of UCM's shelters for one month and provide many of the staples such as canned food and toilet paper.

United Community Ministries has many opportunities for you or your organization to volunteer to help with. From working at the soup kitchen, to painting and repairs, to listening to a child read, UCM appreciates all the volunteers in the community.
Chronic homelessness arises often from simple things like lack of job skills. One way United Community Minitries helps residents is by giving them jobs within our Business Services Division (or BSD).
The BSD provides lawn maintainance and facility cleaning to local businesses and organizations and provides residents with on the job training.

The 2012 Honor Card, painted by William Mangum are now here. During the Holiday Season, Honor Cards are available for a minimum donation of $5 each. Individuals who purchase Honor Cards send them to friends and family, indicating that they have been honored by a donation to a local outreach agency.
United Community Ministries receives 100% of the proceeds for every card purchased. To order your Honor Cards please contact UCM for your cards or pick them up at participating local businesses.
The United Community Ministries Pancake Fundraiser will be on Saturday, December 8th from 7-10am at the Applebee's in Rocky Mount, NC.
Tickets will be $7.00 and can be purchased from UCM board members, by calling the Bassett Center at 985-1650 or contacting Debra Slavin at (252) 937-6627.
